intelligence priorities or a real history of the DGSE I would recommend looking elsewhere

Book has 63 pages with the acronym DGSE appearing on only 9 pages, the first half of this book is simply a basic background on french history and the importance of intelligence in the most general terms. I would argue the book explains more about the DRM and military intelligence than DGSE. For a student or someone interested in general intelligence this book would probably work well. If you are looking for details on French policy, intelligence priorities or a real history of the DGSE I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Polisar Stuns - A Francophile's Dream

I first ran across 'Inside France's DGSE: The General Directorate for External Security (Inside the World's Most Famous Intelligence Agencies)' at a used bookstore in Harvard Square. Nestled in the stacks with my corn muffin and Dunkin Donuts coffee, I consumed it it ravenously (the book, not the muffin), savoring each brilliantly-rendered paragraph between sips of richly aromatic java. It has been said that Polisar's writing is a masterpiece of ironic detachment. Verily, she observes that France's DGSE, like its society, is mysterious and unfathomable. One has only to examine the agency's motto: 'Partout o� n�cessit� fait loi' ("In every place where necessity makes law") to find proof of this. The book is well constructed and features a serviceable binding. Page texture is robust and of adequate weight. The ending brought unexpected tears and an emotional catharsis (a Polisar trademark since her work with analog computing pioneers of the early 1980s). I highly recommend this book.

Stellar book on the French CIA

I came across Ms. Polisar's book while doing research for an adult mystery novel. Even though recommended for ages 9-12, it is by far the best resource - in either French or English - for those wanting to learn about the history and organization of France's General Directorate for External Security (their version of the CIA). This slim, well-written volume offers a wealth of information in a concise, compelling form.

Masahiko Nakahira bring on the paper to my opinion the best art for street fighter about Ryu Gill, and naturally about the Master of the Fist!
Gouken, and others chars are all awesome!
This manga is the best you can have if u 're a mad fan about SF series like me! Proud to have this manga!
Masahiko Nakahira is great! Naturally i'm speaking about the 1 and the 2 vol. of RYU FINAL, the end is very shocking!
If you wanna pass an hour or an hour and half so deep in a manga read this masterpiece by Nakahira and you won't be disappointed!

A must have if you like the Udon SF Books

I grew up playing SF and love the legacy and the culture that it has brought to gaming. If you like the Udon comics, love the original SF: Animated Movie, feverish about SFIII: 3rd strike, then you will enjoy this book.
Ups: Great Art, great fights, nice match ups, smooth story, artist and writer is also a fan, all around great.

Downs: True fans would want a 13 manga series b/c it feels short and doesn't preview fights other than what we are given but i'm thankful for it.

Overall 5/5 bc i am a fan. If i wasn't 4.5/5 bc it could have been longer than 2 books but still great.

Recommendation: Buy UDON SF books, Darkstalkers by UDON, SVC Chaos, and Sakura's mangas. All Great Works.

Pilots And Historical Fic Fans Will Enjoy This Book

Amerika was quite a pleasant surprise. To be honest, when I bought it, my expectations were not very high. I saw that it was available through Kindle Unlimited and assumed the novel was of questionable quality. That attitude evaporated after about twenty pages. Paul Lally has crafted an exciting book. The plot is imaginative and unique, the characters...both real life and fiction....are interesting and vibrant. Whether you love of hate a certain character the reader will find his or herself wanting to see the character's journey through to the end.

The author knows flying and it shows in this book. As a pilot, I appreciated this tremendously. Paul Lally injects aviation into the story well. His explanations of flying and the flight characteristics of the Pan Am Clipper do not come across like a training manual. In fact, he does such a good job of describing the aircraft and making it part of the story that it comes across as a main character instead of an object.

The background events will not be quite so believable to some readers. Germany gets the atomic bomb before the United States and uses it on December 8th, 1941 against Washington DC and New York. The US is forced to accept a peace that makes them neutral and under the 'guidance' of German forces in the US ostensibly to make sure that America honors its forced neutrality. Obviously, things did not quite pan out this way, but it's an interesting background. The plot centers around a former Clipper pilot who is recruited by a group of resistors. He helps them in their quest to prepare for the day when the US can throw off the shackles of German oversight.

The most exciting part of the story for me was the flight to bomb Hanford, Washington and back. The plot took some interesting turns there and Lally wrote the flight scenes here especially well.

I strongly recommend this book to the general public, although I am certain that aviators and historical fiction fans especially will love it.

It's FUN to play "What if

It's FUN to play "What if..." and to wonder what might have happened if "this" event had taken place instead of "that" one.
How fun AND clever of Paul Lally to rearrange the events of World War II to imagine and write a plausible cause-and-effect alternate history of that time.
As with his first book "SILK," the degree of his research for "AMERIKA" into time, place and technology - OLD technology - is astounding. Repeatedly I found myself asking "How the hell did he find all this stuff out?"
The story held together well, and it moved along smartly. The character mix was varied and interesting. Since the story was written in the first person, I presumed the story outcome would be positive...but the manner in which it transpired wasn't foreshadowed.
I LIKE Mr. Lally's style and almost Tom Clancy-ish attention to detail. It's informative and moves the story along, but it isn't pedantic.
Both of Mr. Lally's books read like movies, and I believe they'd both make good ones!
I cannot wait to see what the mind of Mr. Lally dreams up next!

I can fly, I can fly!

Well not really but after reading Paul Lally's AMERIKA I almost feel I can take off and land with the finesse and bravado required by pilot Sam Carter. This reader sitting comfortably at home was swept up and out of her arm chair and into the mind of a writer that took me into the shaking, shuddering,�nerve wracking, hold your breath and pray, journey of a flying machine.

It would not surprise�me to find out that�Paul Lally is a�pilot, as his�ability to create the sense of being airborne hits the perfect mark.�His aviation knowledge from decades ago speaks to me not with flat, pedantic facts but with an energy and enthusiasm�that neither bores nor speaks down.�Hours upon hours of research are woven into to a tale that both teaches and engages.

�

Writing a novel of alternative historical fiction requires marrying fact and fantasy�into a�“what-if” scenario�that asks us to suspend belief and if�written�correctly we’re not aware that we are doing so. Fact and fiction�must become interchangeable.�Imagination at its best�takes readers to�places they thought they would never go and are happy to have been there. Paul�Lally does so wonderfully.

The characters are developed in such a way as to make us care about each one, some we love, some we despise but emotion is evoked by�each of them.�Paul�Lally creates strong central heroes that we cheer for throughout his story. He gives both Sam and Ava strong distinctive personalities, with some underlying stubbornness and differences that combine to create a perfect duo that takes on the challenges that a temporarily fallen Amerika faces. Unified in their fight for their country and their future they risk it all, side by side.�In this story of love and loss, hope and despair, defeat and victory, America is returned to her full upright and prideful position.

Conversation With Filmmakers

This is an incredible book that contains Bogdanovich's various interviews with some of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers. These are not detailed biographies however, they are an in-depth conversation about the filmmaker's films and his own feelings about them. While some go into the individual's past it is just so you can get an idea of the personality of the filmmaker. This is a must-have book. A good way to look at it is to read it through once and become familiar with all of the directors, some of whom may be new to you. Then as you view their films go back and read what they have to say. Though sometimes their comments are very brief, it's one of the few sources you'll find where the film-maker makes direct reference back to a film. And I don't know what it is about Bogdanovich but he always brings out gems of truth from those he interviews.

A treasury of film knowledge and personalities

Peter Bogdanovich has written a book that is for the movie enthusiast. I suspect the general reader may find some of the interviewees obscure, and the topics technical. I feel that is their loss. For the student of film or film history, this is a treasure trove of information, ideas, experiences, and feelings about films taken from interviews with some of the most distinguished directors in movie history. The author's selection is not encyclopedic, but the directors' experience spans from the earliest years of silent film to the present. These men are not just informative, but their strong and distinctive personalities show in each interview, giving the sense that one has actually met and understood many of them. Some of the interviews are brief, or even very idiosyncratic, but the best are delightfully personal. This is a long book, but affords many pleasant evenings of good conversation. It also makes one want to go back and see the films again!

Insightful, and Informative.

This book gathers together 16 interviews the author conducted with some of the greatest directors the Golden Age of Hollywood ever produced.

All of them had their own style of film making, and are well worth searching out on video, and DVD.

In their interviews, they provide insight into their craft and a glimpse of Hollywood's golden age that will add considerablly to your understanding, and appreciation of the Golden Age.

If you have Netflix, or other similar service, then I heartily recommend that after reading this book you add films by these folks to your watch list, and enjoy.
