The best introduction to this complex field available. Extremely well-written, lucid, and compelling. Would serve as a great text for classroom use, but is engaging enough to be read in a weekend. Robbins does an excellent job of weaving together different philosophical and scientific currents into a valuable resource for a variety of scholars.

For a university course. Paul Robbins is a clear, well structured writer who makes what can be a dense topic accessible. His book on Lawns is a good read too...
